Sustainability is positioned on the learning pathway that prepares students for their places in a world and an economy that will have sustainable development as a major theme. This book invites students to explore the issues and terminology involved. Through connections with, experience in, reflection about and knowledge of sustainability, students will become action-competent and equipped with the means to contribute to the good
health of New Zealand and the planet generally. While Sustainability sits firmly in the Social Studies strands, especially The Economic World, Place and Environment, and Continuity and Change, and in Geography NCEA, the concept of sustainability is integral to the New Zealand curriculum.
