Queen Charlotte College wanted a smarter approach to managing its printing needs for staff and students. Their existing fleet of printers spread across the campus had become a challenge with high operating costs and low efficiency.
We provided a solution that significantly reduced their printing cost, helped cut down on emissions and increased productivity.
The Challenge
Other key requirements for the school were to:
-
Find a more sustainable printing solution.
-
Reliable tech support to resolve issues promptly so that the machine does not sit idle for days awaiting service.
-
A Print system that integrates with their existing print management software, PaperCut.
The Solution
OfficeMax’s Account Manager for Queen Charlotte College, Janet Sowman, arranged an audit of the school’s print usage with our partner, Brother, to understand how we could optimise the school’s print system.
The audit revealed that the school had an oversupply of A3 copy machines, and the other smaller machines were inefficient.
-
We replaced the school’s printing fleet with 13 fit-for-purpose machines tailored to the school’s requirements in different departments.
The new print fleet included a mix of Konica Minolta bizhub A3 multi-purpose devices, and Brother mono and colour laser printers, which were fast and energy-efficient.
-
The Konica Minolta bizhub C300i and C550i multifunctional printers were installed in the student learning centre and copy rooms. These devices supported high-quality printing, especially for photography students and printing booklets.
-
We offered them OfficeMax Multipurpose and New Future Opti Carbon Neutral paper samples that produced excellent-quality prints.
-
All printers were installed using their existing print management software, PaperCut.
-
Brother facilitated a smooth transition from old machines to new setups, preventing any downtime for printing access.
-
The new printers automatically order cartridges from Brother when needed, so no running out of toners.
"We have been very happy to gain cost savings and maintain a great service by being well-supported if any issues arise."
Betty Whyte, Principal, Queen Charlotte College
The Results
Our strong partnership allowed us to combine the expertise of our Account Managers' customer knowledge and Brother's technical know-how to provide the ideal end-to-end solution for the school's printing needs.
-
A fit-for-purpose print fleet with devices matched to usage requirements delivered cost savings of 58% per year.
-
It was also projected that the college’s new print fleet with fewer devices and more energy-efficient technology would result in a 37.4% reduction in CO2 emissions per year*.
-
Brother’s NZ-based helpdesk is available 24/7 for any servicing or maintenance needs.
-
The school can recycle cartridges through Brother’s recycling programme.
-
We significantly transformed their managed print service, making it more productive for staff and students.
